Power Transformers
Power transformers are basic electrical devices that convert electrical energy from one voltage level to another voltage level. There are two main types: step-up and step-down transformers. -Step-up Transformers: They convert low voltage at the input to high voltage at the output. For example, they convert low-voltage energy obtained from electricity generators into high-voltage energy suitable for transmission lines. -Step-down Transformers: They convert the high voltage at the input to low voltage at the output. For example, they are used to convert low-voltage energy used in homes from electricity transmission lines. These transformers can generally be designed as oil-filled (oil-filled type) or dry type. In oil-filled transformers, oil is used for insulation and cooling, while in dry-type transformers, insulation materials such as resin or air are preferred. Dry type transformers offer advantages such as being environmentally friendly, requiring less maintenance and being safer. Power transformers are widely used in energy transmission, distribution and industrial applications. They are especially critical to ensure efficient and reliable operation of electrical power systems.
